Admission to Msgr. Scanlan High School
The goal of Monsignor Scanlan High School is the development of the true Christian, a person who respects others and is willing to exercise responsibility in order to realize the values of Catholic Christianity and our American Democracy.
Admission to Freshman Year is determined by acceptable scores on the Test for Admission to Catholic High School (TACHS) and also by the record of class achievement in the 6th, 7th and 8th Grades as provided by the grammar school principal. In some cases, a recommendation from the student's principal, pastor, teacher or guidance counselor is requested. Students from Catholic grammar schools receive information about the TACHS exam directly from their school principal. Students in public schools may obtain information about the TACHS exam from the local Catholic grammar school or from the Office of the Superintendent of Schools, Archdiocese of New York at (212) 371-1000.
Our TACHS School Code Is 304.
If you were not able to take the TACHS test in November or have recently moved to New York City, please contact our Principal's Office (718-430-0100 ext. 17 for information on admission for this coming September.
Acceptance into Msgr. Scanlan High School, in effect, is an agreement between Scanlan High School and the student and his or her parent(s) or guardian(s). The agreement means that Scanlan High School will do its part to offer the student the proper instruction and encouragement to successfully complete the course of studies prescribed for graduation by the New York State Department of Education, which includes passing the required six State Regents exams (American History, Global History, Math, English, Science and foreign language). On the student's part, this agreement means that the student, with the help of parent(s) or guardian(s), will maintain grades, will conduct oneself in a responsible manner according to Christian principles of behavior, and will show the proper motivation to continue at the school.
While we make every effort to help each individual student, including offering teacher-assistance and peer-assistance., we cannot guarantee passing grades in individual subjects or graduation. This is the responsibility of each student to achieve.
Transfer Students
Students may be admitted to the 10thand 11th year on the basis of acceptable report card grades, letters of recommendation and a personal interview.
Acceptance to Scanlan does not guarantee graduation. Students must maintain their grades, conduct themselves in a responsible manner and show the proper motivation at the school.
